Land And Camping

In the fall of the year before each Estrella War, the Crowns of the Principal Kingdoms and their appointed Land Allocation Coordinators create a camping map that shows the land reserved for each of the nineteen SCA Kingdoms attending the prior year's Estrella War. This map is then published on the Event Site Maps page of the website, and in the event gatebook.

THE LAND ALLOCATION MEETING

The allocation of camping land for SCA Kingdoms is traditionally done at a Land Allocation Meeting held in conjunction with the Estrella War Treaty Negotiations in the fall of the year before the war. At that meeting, the Crowns of the Principal Kingdoms and their Land Coordinators review the requests for Kingdom lands received from the Crowns of other SCA Kingdoms, and the attendance numbers for each SCA Kingdom at the prior year's event. This information is then used to determine the size and location of camping areas reserved for each SCA Kingdom at the event. A map showing the land designated for each SCA Kingdom is published on the Event Site Maps page of the website following this meeting.

HOW DO PEOPLE KNOW WHERE THEY CAN CAMP?

Since each SCA Kingdom determines how their assigned camping area is used, the best way to determine where you camp at Estrella War is to work through your local SCA Group. This is best done before you leave home, by contacting the Ruling Nobility or Seneschal of the SCA group closest to you and asking if you can have a camping space reserved to camp with them. As an alternative, you can also contact your Kingdom’s Estrella War Land Coordinator.

If you arrive at the event and have not made prior arrangements for a camping space, you have the following options:

Use the map at the Front Gate to locate a specific SCA group or SCA Kingdom, and then go check with their Land Coordinator, Ruling Nobility or Seneschal to see if they have any camping space available for you.
Check with the autocrats at Front Gate to see if there is any unassigned, overflow camping area available. Limited overflow camping areas are usually available at Estrella War, but may get used very quickly.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE I ATTEND ESTRELLA WAR?

There are many things to consider when attending Estrella War. Whether you camp for the full week of the event, or stay at a nearby hotel, you should carefully plan for lots of walking (the site is very big), for sudden changes in weather, and remember to pack the important comforts of home you need to have an enjoyable time in the Current Middle ages.
